Your Eyes Open

This morning, whilst making my delicious bakery items, I became privy to the following conversation that occured between my favorite coworker (NotTuesdays) and another coworker that we could take or leave (NotTall):

NotTuesdays: So NotCharlotte, yesterday I had an intersting conversation with NotTall about you yesterday.
Me: Oh really?
NT: Yes, really. We were talking about my work schedule and I said something about how much I love working on Tuesdays with you and he stops what he's doing and gets a far off look in his eyes. He goes 'Man, that NotCharlotte. She's got the most captivating eyes. If she were a little bit older, or I were a little less taken...'
Me: *abah* whaaat? How old is he?
NT: I think he's around 39. He kept talking about your eyes and how much he likes your laugh and how you're always happy and so fun to be around.
Me: *speechless*

This was all very flattering, but honestly, I didn't expect this coming from a man that I consider old enough to be my... older uncle. He's always complimenting me on my eyes, but I didn't know it was that intense of a "like." I'm not sure if I should be flattered about this or slightly creeped out. Those are perfect words to be said about myself, I only wish they could have come out of someone else's mouth...

I would be flattered. Hell, I was flattered today when a truck driver honked at me.

Flattery sounds like the way to go. Besides I've seen your eyes and they see all and tell all...

Take it as flattery. Compliments are always good no matter where they come from.

Well, if someone as "taken" as he is is thinking it, chances are pretty good that someone else will be thinking it too, hopefully someone much more desirable!

NotCharlotte, you've got the most captivating eyes. If I knew how old you were, or even... where...

*gets faraway look in eyes*

Notcar: was he cute? more importantly, was the truck he drove a Target truck?

NotSam: wow, you make me sound like The Oracle.

Harley: that's true, and i am flattered

px: i'll show you my eyes if you show me your accent!

jay: oh, don't you get my hopes up!

retro: i just turned 23...

carmen: true. i'm a glutton for compliments. i'm just the worst at taking them.

I don't know the intonation or exact context, but I've said that about people who are much younger without being lascivious at all. It is flattering since it's completely hypothetical. The "if" is big. IF he were younger and less taken, you'd be the kind of person he'd want to go out with. Not that he dreams about leaving his wife and taking you in the walk-in fridge.

beavis: this man is notorious for making lewd comments and he's got a "ladyfriend" that works until 5am, when i get to work and they're always whispering and hugging a bit longer than necessary.
he's not married and i wouldn't go into our walk in freezer with jake gylenhaal! that thing is like death just to get near! it also doesn't help that the things we keep our goods in are called coffins. yecchh.

haha sorry for the ramble.

This is not at all creepy. He keeps it to himself while you are around and only said it with prompting. If he were running around talking about you constantly, that would just be a little sad, but as it is, no biggee.

Also, the only kind of guy who makes a move at work outside of the movies and TV is a creep.

Most guys I know shit themselves at the thought of the consequences of making a move at work. After work at a happy hour is another thing.

Hey, take it as a compliment. There's enough other people talking shit in the world. As long as he doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, it's good.

I think this actually tells you more about the gossipy coworker who totally blabbed something that probably wasn't meant to be spread around, rather than about NotTall.

the way i see it, i think these older and/or taken men are more generous with the flattery 'coz they probably know that nothing's gonna happen between you and him. well just take all the compliments you can get. besides it's a really nice compliment.

the way i look at it is, one day we will be old and wrinkly and saggy, so we should appreciate it while we've still got the ability to turn heads!

i say, be grateful. :)

so...if he breaks up w/his woman, would you want to go out w/him?

virginia: not just no, but HELL no. he just got transferred to a different section of the bakery, so now he's been trying to eat lunch with me and making extra attempts to have a conversation.
