My Back-Up

I lost my back-up. You know, my "We'll get married if we're both single when we're 40" guy. It's just one of those fun things to do after years of being friends and sharing with each other our own unrequited love problems. So it happened, one night, probably after some drinking, we decided to be each other's backups "just in case." I was a little offended when I suggested age 40 and he said 50, though, but it's okay since 40 is the new 30, right?

There was never anything more between us, but now our friendship has taken a different course and I've barely talked to him in the past year. So, I think it's time for a new backup. Not like it's a bad thing to not be married in twenty or thirty years, but I always think of my aunt who wasn't married and wanted a baby. She went to her backup and got knocked up and now has a gorgeous little girl, the light of her life. What if I'm 40 and want a child? A back up could come in handy, right? What if I'm 50 and really hankering for some lovin'? (ha!)

Do you have a backup? I'm mulling over my ideas of who should be mine and this time, I hope he's more excited to get to age 40 than the previous title holder was!

I had a backup. But in college I fixed him up with a girl I knew and they wound up getting married. Then she turned into a BITCH and they got divorced. So he was (again) my backup. 40 was out magic number, too. So then I fixed him up with a mutual friend of ours that he hadn't seen in like FOREVER and now they just got married. So I am backup-less again.

What I learned is this: If you are going to bother having a backup, DON'T fix them up with other people. For obvious reasons. ;)

I did have a back up, but I lost him too.

Haha, that's funny, Dasi. I can't really imagine turning 40 and getting married just bc I'm not, though. It's a fun position to fill, though:)

I totally had one when I was like...12 - but of course have lost touch since then.

I have a friend now that I want to ask, but I'm not sure if he would take it the right way...hahahah.

I definitely have a back up. We dated many years ago but have stayed in touch. He came up with the idea that if we're not happily married (to other people) by a certain age (45), that we need to get married and play bingo for the rest of our lives. Once in awhile, either he or I, end up in a relationship.. but we know our little secret.

I have three. I have a backup for my backup's backup.

A woman needs to be prepared!!

I've got a back up but I'm not so sure I'm happy with him. I think it's time to find a back up for my back up.

Since I'm happily involved I don't have a backup, but when I was in high school I did. Lost touch with him, then got another backup in university.

He married a girl after knocking her up and gave up the chance to pursue a PHD in psychology. Poor bastard.

My backup to THAT backup turned out to be a serial cheater that would not be the kind of guy I'd want to say "I'll love you forever" too. He'd probably hit on my bridesmaids.

Hopefully I won't ever need to look for another...

I had 2 backups.

Both have since gone off the market. I'm starting to wonder if the backup works against the woman.

The 2nd one killed me cause he married someone who's name is shockingly similar to mine. Like, a couple of letters off. I think that's just the universe being mean.

Never had a backup; however, I am currently accepting applications.

I don't have a backup... well besides NotHusband.

I used to have a backup betrothed, but I think he got married or something.

i had a backup and lost him too. i don't even know how we unofficially wound up as each other's backup for when we're 35 (or at least when i'm 35 'coz he's 2 years older). we used to be pretty good friends and then in last few years we didn't talk much anymore. he got married this year. he didn't even invite me.

NotHusband? He needs a name change.

I used to have a back up but I'm not sure if I was serious about it. Mind you, if I had got to a point where I wanted a baby, I would have reeled in one of the lads. Boys find it difficult to turn down a shag, even when you're mates...

Now I'm wondering why I never had a backup...

Is it even possible to plan a backup...something to ponder. I guess I have a hard time planning, typical aquarius.

NotCharlotte said...

Marko, not true! I am an aquarius and i can't HELP but plan things!!

Maybe you should find a back up zodiac sign...

hah.

NotCarrie said...

Marko- I'm a non-planning Aquarian, too! Well, I have to make lists, but I won't commit to plans. Does that count??

Maybe what I really need is a friend with benefits, haha. Why wait til I'm 40?

I can't say I have a backup plan. Oh hang on I did (just remembered) but he got married.

Deleted my blog for the 2nd time, it wasn't completely confidential, two had the address. Will drop you a line later with a new ID.

No backup here, and I'm getting dangerously close to one of the trigger ages...

My backup is one of my good friends from high school. We had a friends with benefits relationship a few summers ago and he asked me to make "the backup" deal with him. He wanted the age to be 24 (I'd be out of school and making my pharmaceutical millions) but we agreed on 30. He's got a girlfriend now, but we're still great friends and we still joke about 30 getting closer and closer...

My back up got married about 3 years ago. Around the time that he was dating her, he stopped talking to me. How strange that he decided to get back in touch after they got married. I have yet to meet her and he calls me three times a day. He and I used to have phone sex before he met his wife. He's started to lace our conversations with sexual innuendo while telling me how great his marriage is and lecturing me on relationships. You got married, I tell him, you didn't cure cancer. Fuck him. Cooulda Woulda Shoulda.

I've never had a backup...Wait I take that back. NotADramaQueen is my backup! Though gay he may be, we've both decided that if I ever want to have children (ie when I finally decide to give up living), that he would get to be the sperminator for me. Boy or girl our child would be gorgeous and rule the world. So I think I've got 7 more years before that expires.

I don't have a male back up but me and a friend decided if we don't get married we'll move in together and get lots of cats to cover the whole "dying alone" thing

No back up as of yet. I am still hoping to be married by 30. Originally the plan was to be married by 25...but that's right around the corner. *tear*

Smooches!

Wow, I had no idea so many females had backups. The thought never crossed my mind, to be honest. But then, I don't think I'm the marriage/mommy type.

/the whole world sighs with relief!
