This Charming Man

I went out the other night to meet up with my college friend, NotCharming, and some other people I know through him. I always look forward to nights out with him because he really does live up to his name as he is one of the most charming people I know. He's the type of guy who will know everyone in the room, but you still feel like you're his #1 there.

We have an interesting history. It's gone from barely knowing each other, to me having a weird, big crush on him (during college), to use flirting incessantly, to him asking me to bone, to us becoming good friends. He lives out of the state now, so I don't get as much of his charming personality as I would like, but I always make sure to meet up when he is home for holidays.

The other night was weird, though, at karoake. His ex-girlfriend was there and I got the feeling he's still into her. She was cute and all, but she was one of those Professional Karoake-ers-you know who I mean. The ones who sing with vibrato, do dance moves, and always choose the songs that will best showcase their 'voices', ha! The one time I did karoake, I sang Bootylicious in a redneck bar in the southside of Richmond. It was God-awful and as soon as the song was done, I set down the microphone and left the bar.

I, surprisingly, have never kissed NotCharming. In the almost seven years I have known him, I can't believe this fact. There's just something in the stars that always puts some weird clause on us when we're hanging out even though the flirting has gotten pretty crazy at times. I'm not saying I want to or expect to ever have something with him, it's just weird nothing has ever happened. He's a good friend, though, and I am glad for that.

It's been my experience, that if things don't happen pretty early on, there's some reason for it and maybe it should be left alone. But then again, if he's hot and fun, why not push it and see where it goes?

I had a good friend like that for several years -- we both had feelings for each other at different times, but never seemed to line up. Sometimes those are the best kinds of friends.

Churlita- Yeah, I'm not pining after him AT ALL. I don't lose any sleep over not having kissed him...it's just interesting that all the flirting never went further.

Lmnt- Yeah, he's a good boo.

I kind of like that tension in a friendship every now and again. It kind of keeps me on my toes.

men who are charming like that are dangerous...they're my cryptonite! but i also have a friend who seemingly we would have at least kissed once...but never did. and now he's married to one of my best friends - so it worked out!

so he's asked you to bone but you guys haven't kissed? well sometimes it's good to be friends with a guy you can flirt with and yet know there probably won't be anything much to it.

I've only done Karoake one time as well, it was one a cruise ship and the CD begged me to go up because the same guy kept going up again and again.

I went up sang an awful version of John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and left stage as quickly as possible :).

I think that perhaps the not kissing is a good thing, because I know from experience that kisses can muddle up a perfectly good friendship!

He was really drunk when the boning question was posed. And actually, we did sort of kiss once, but it was slightly disastrous and embarassing (for me), which I guess is why I forgot about it.

I've definitely done the friend/crush dance many times. I only ever kissed one of them. It was a fun night that involved skinny-dipping and a make-out session. Lucky for me, it didn't confuse or change anything between us. It happened when I least expected it, so you never know what's going to happen. But if it does, I hope you can chalk it up to a fun night like I did!

Wow, that sounds kinda frustrating. But then again, maybe this is one of those things that are better unsolved (& unscrewed)…

Hope things works out for you – New Years brings new hope… Happy holiday! :)
