Shhh, Here Comes The Bride!

One of the girls in my class is getting married tomorrow but get this, it's a SECRET wedding! She said only about 20 people know and those are the ones who HAD to know. Most everyone else thinks they are attending an engagement party. The groom's mom doesn't even know! (I hope she's laid back!) I think it's such a neat idea and would take so much pressure off of the planning for the couple.

I am supposedly at that age when a lot of my friends are getting married but since graduating college, I've only been to two weddings! And both of those were for super religious girls who were older than me and I think couldn't wait for the sex. (Both are quite happy, though. Don't get me wrong.) So is it just my circle of friends that is full of single people or is it just a growing trend to get hitched later? And I really really really don't want anyone to read single in a negative way. PLEASE don't. I don't consider it negative. (OK, at TIMES I consider it negative but those are extenuating circumstances. Like when I need a date to a work function, or I need someone to kiss, stuff like that.)

OK, the focus of this post went from Surprise Wedding to Clarifications on the word Single. Maybe that should be my cue to stop.

I think that people ARE waiting later to get married. I mean, most of the people that I hang out with aren't married. A bunch of them not even in a relationship. Which is a good thing, considering I am single too! :)

This is what I've noticed...everyone I went to high school with and work with or even just casual acquaintances...are all married and having families.

However...almost all of my close friends (which is a large group of guys and girls) are all single. Every single one of them. I guess we all stick to our own kind.

That's such a cute idea... too bad my mother would have a heart attack if i did that...

Most of the people i went to high school with are in serious relationships, turned gay, or just had children on their own. Kind of weird. Well, then there's my closest high school friend that's having a Star Wars themed wedding... *sigh*

I have a few married/engaged friends but they aren't the majority, so I don't have to feel paranoid yet! I am worried that as the years go by, the pressure will begin to mount. I'm not sure marriage fits in with my feminist principles anyway ;)

I'm 30, and I'm one of those people who plans on NOT getting married. Live in bf will be just fine for me, thanks. Marriage (nowadays) really seems to have a strange tendency to ruin good sex and good times.. Not for everyone, obviously. But a whole lotta lottas..

Everyone I know is married. To rub salt to the wound....my cousin (who is a few months older) just met a guy in April and they are getting married in AUGUST! (yes, psycho was the word I used too). Not to mention that the guy she is now engaged to is someone that I dated last year. Go figure! Did I mention that I went to 11 weddings last year, and so far this year, I have been to 5!! Do people have anything better to do or is this my personal hell?!

Coming from a small town in Texas most of my friends/classmates got hitched right out of high school or during college. I've definitely been the black sheep. I'm so ok with that, though. Most of them are already on their second marriage and have tons of rug rats ; )

Secret weddings sound fun : )

i would give my right arm to have a secret wedding. my fiance and i have even thought about getting married while we are in hawaii in a few weeks and then jsut going through the motions in august.

i'm 29 so i think that is late for me, considering i thought i'd be married at 23 and all that BS. kids is another story, i'm not ready to quit being selfish.

I knew I wouldn't get married before turning 27 (even though I'm not there yet) but I'd like it to be in the next few years.

I def. think more and more people are waiting to get married!

I still say that going away for the wedding is the best!

I think it really truly depends what part of the country you live in! I come from a big city in the northeast and NONE of my friends, college or high school are married (although two just got engaged...they arent planning on marrying for 2 more years) and i've been out of college for 3 years. BUT I moved to the midwest 2 years ago and it is like you are an old maid at the ripe old age of 24 (my age). I was baffled when I moved here and realized the overall difference in thinking when it came to marraige!
